Land-Based Careers: Understanding the Bigger Picture

Blog •

What are people really earning across the land-based sectors? Which benefits matter most? What are candidates looking for in their careers? Which skills will employers need in the future?

At LandIt.jobs, we want to better understand the employment market across the Rural, Agriculture, Forestry, Utilities & Infrastructure, and Environmental sectors, and we need your help.

We are launching two new sector-wide surveys, looking at the market from both sides of the fence:

Our aim is to gather meaningful, cross-sector information and turn it into useful insight for candidates, employers, and the wider industry.

Candidate Salary, Benefits & Career Survey

For candidates and professionals across sectors, the survey covers much more than salary.

We want to understand:

·      How salaries vary according to role, experience and location

·      Which benefits and wider package elements are most valued

·      What candidates are looking for from their next career move

·      Views on career progression and development

·      What influences people when considering a new opportunity

·      How priorities change as careers develop

Whether you are just starting your career or have many years’ experience, your views can help paint a clearer picture of what professionals in these sectors want and expect.

Employer Salary, Benefits & Skills Trends Survey

For employers, we are looking at the other side of the equation.

The survey explores:

·      Current salary levels and benefits

·      How employers structure their packages

·      Which skills are currently in demand

·      Where skill shortages are emerging

·      The skills employers expect to become increasingly important

·      Recruitment challenges and changing workforce requirements

By gathering this information from employers across rural and related sectors, we hope to identify key trends shaping recruitment and employment.

Why are we doing this?

Recruitment across these sectors can be very specialist, and reliable market information is not always easy to find.

Salary expectations can vary significantly by experience, location, and specialism, while broader benefits can also play an important role in attracting and retaining people.

At the same time, candidates’ expectations are changing, and employers are facing an evolving skills landscape.

We want to bring some real data to the conversation.

LandIt.jobs is about more than advertising vacancies. We want to provide useful information, insight and resources that help people make better career and recruitment decisions.

These surveys are part of that.

The results will help us build a picture of the market based on the experiences and views of people working in the sector and recruiting into it.

The more responses we receive, the more useful the results will be

We want the surveys to represent the breadth of the sectors we cover, so we are encouraging professionals at all career stages and employers of all sizes to take part.

You don’t need to be actively looking for a new job to complete the candidate survey, and you don’t need to be recruiting right now to complete the employer survey.

Your experience and views are valuable regardless of where you currently sit in the market.

The survey takes about 15 minutes to complete, and your contribution will help us build a more accurate picture of the employment market.

What happens to the results?

Once we receive all responses, we will analyse the data separately, then combine it into one report to share findings and highlight key trends in salary, benefits, career priorities, and skills.

We hope the results will provide useful benchmarking information for employers, give candidates a better understanding of the market, and highlight wider recruitment and workforce trends affecting the sectors we cover.
